I have always assumed and never tried just putting my dirty dish directly into the dishwasher. I thought I had to have one of those fancy ones- you know the one in the commercial that cleaned a plate with a whole cake on it. Well the dear mr. sent me a very informative email and it looks like this household will not be rinsing anymore pre-dishwasher dishes.
Here is the link: dishwasher
and more reading from the link above: dishwasher 2
I especially liked the 2nd link because it gave a very helpful hint on drying your dishes (called flash dry). I usually just open the door at the very end and air dry the dishes...but the tip makes the drying process go a lot quicker. Bummer now I don't have a good excuse when I am too lazy to unload my dishwasher:)
Also just wanted to throw in my most FAVORITEST dishwasher cleaner! I have tried a few different natural cleaners...and none of them really worked. Shaklee dishwasher detergent. Not only is it safe for the environment it is also safe on your pocket book! A little bit goes a long way!
Don't worry you will be hearing more about Shaklee on this here place!!

water. daily posts. oh my.

So I have been aware of how wasteful my life is lately. When I went out to lunch today...I have to admit I cringed a little, poured myself a little guilt and swallowed a bit of sorrow -all while dumping my recyclable garbage away. Odd I know. But I really do care. Usually you will see me carrying my recyclable number one plastic cup around until I can safely deposit where it belongs. Sometimes I am good, sometimes not so good. Some days I vow I will not eat out so much, not because it is not good for me or I can't afford it but because it is a lot of waste. Now don't get me wrong...I usually don't loose too much sleep over all this green business. So today in honor of my being more aware a waste - I am going to bless you with some information on water.
Bottled water sorta falls into a similar category as eating out...in the sense that it is easy and convenient. I usually do not buy bottled water, only on occasions when it is necessary. After reading a brochure from my local water stewardship program I am glad that I don't purchase bottled water as much. So as usual I will post the site.
Here are some quotes from the brochure:
"plastic requires 47 million gallons of oil per year to produce.
over 80% of plastic bottles are simply thrown away.
bottled water produces up to 1.5 million tons of plastic waste per year.
for the price of a single 20 ounce bottle of water you could fill up the same container with tap water once a day for more than 13 years."
The brochure collected it's information from:

Teai Tried:
Oh- you noticed my Mexican Coke sitting pretty next to my water? (if you didn't -oh well I am going to tell you anyways)
You also noticed how healthy I eat? I keep my trader joe's (imported by my family...you know who you are...thanks!) vegan- best ever- super duper- don't even try to make them- better than your grandma's secret recipe -chocolate chip cookies in the cupboard. I basically live on those.
Okay sorry back to the coke....
So our friends told us about Mexican Coke...made with REAL sugar people! It does taste better! Go get some! Now if they only made more flavors...vanilla...or cherry please.
If I have not sold you on the deliciousness...look at the cool-old fashioned- and recyclable glass bottle it comes in!!!
And because everything I say comes with a site...here take this...read this...what- ev (that was for you dear ~xox~)

as my bro and law always says..."consider yourself blessed."

tinkers glam
The following quote is similar to what I had read a few weeks ago:
"Did you know that when sun's rays hit your retina your body is stimulated to produce more melanin, therefore protecting you from sunburn? Consider taking those sunglasses off for a while when you're out there. Remember, your eyes are designed to adjust to light." (Cindy Joseph, from the second article/link below)
Since I had never heard of this before I was really curious to what this was all about. So after a few google searches I found these sites. Interesting indeed.
and no people...the mutant squirrels have nothing to do with the article I want you to read...scroll down to the appropriate article:
http://www.sciencebuzz.org/buzz_tags/melanin
this page also talks about vitamin D ...very interesting! Those certain people I give a hard time about not showering...you now have a good excuse.

simple sun

So I have had tons of things swirling around in my head. Ideas I wanted to post. Things I wanted to share. However I have been holding back because I have not had the time to put all those thoughts together to make a thorough post. So since my life is not going to get any slower - I thought I would just tweak the way I will be posting. I decided that I will just post the tidbits as I get them...as they come up or just when I think they should come up! So today I will bless you with some information that I have been sorta working on...again not done researching.
So- some of the natural blogs/site I follow have talked about safe sunscreens. When I started reading I realized that the sunscreens were just as toxic as the sun on our naked skin. So I will simply post some of the sites so far and then you can decide what you think! Then as I do future research I will post those findings as well. Enjoy.

eye see

Today marks the day of eyes and iris' in school for princess p. This also marks the second time I am left in deep thought by the children's book I read before nap time.
The lovely book is called: "All I See" by Cynthia Rylant, illustrations by Peter Catalanotto. To skip to the part of importance- a boy asks a painter why he always paints whales, since there were no whales in the live water landscape. The painter simply responds "It's all I see."
Gives me much to ponder. art. life. faith.

Repost
The blog will hold true to it's name:
~ it will be simple,
~ the postings will probably be few and far between...(lets face it people, I am a seasoned snail!) although writing is not my most favorite thing to do in the world, I will try my best to update when I can!
~I will strive to bring you my journey- to all things simple. I am not a simple person...only a person trying to live a simple life.
~oh and I will post my findings, research and other tidbits that I find along the way...take them as they are and make your own informative decision!
~guaranteed to be sprinkled with my "dirty hippie ways"
~may be subject to change
~God, my family and art may appear as well- the loves of my life :)
until next time-
